Joy Barron, DVM
Veterinarian / Owner
Born and raised in Madison, Dr. Joy Barron grew up watching her father, Dr. John Petscher, care for all creatures great and small. This experience formed a passion for animals, their health and well-being, and the science behind their care. Dr. Barron attended Purdue University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in general agriculture in 2003 and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2008. In 2010 Dr. Barron joined the Madison Animal Clinic and became the owner in 2011. Her clinical interests include soft tissue surgery, dentistry, and preventative wellness care for small animals.
Angela Hartwell, DVM
Associate Veterinarian
Dr. Angela Hartwell graduated from Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2011. She has practiced on large and small animals since that time. Dr. Hartwell grew up in Switzerland County and resides there now with her husband and two sons. In her time out of the office, she is attending her boys sporting events and taking care of her own dogs, cats and pigs at home.
Candace Clerkin
Veterinary Assistant
I’ve been with Madison Animal Clinic for nearly 14 years and have had a passion for helping animals for as long as I can remember—starting as a kid who loved bringing surprise animals home to my parents. I began at the clinic in 2012 as a receptionist and worked at the front desk for many years before stepping out of my comfort zone to assist with animals in the back, where I truly found my place in veterinary medicine. I’m currently in my second semester of the Vet Tech program, working toward becoming a licensed RVT. I’m married to Brandon, and we have two children, Addie and Lane. My love for animals continues to shape my life—these days, I bring surprise animals home to my husband! We share our home with several chickens, cats, and dogs. In my free time, I enjoy being with my family and animals, gardening and canning, fishing, and hunting with our beagles.
Tiffany Gonzalez
Bilingual Veterinary Receptionist
I’ve been working at the animal clinic for about a year now. I’ve always had a deep love for animals, but I’m especially crazy for cats! I have two of my own who keep my life interesting (and full of fur). There’s Thomas Toe Beans III—Tommy for short—my sweet three-legged tabby who’s as regal as his name suggests. And then there’s Richard Reginald Richardson, or Richie, my wild Siamese Lynx Point with enough personality for five cats. I love them both dearly. When I’m not at the clinic or covered in cat hair, you’ll usually find me crocheting. I speak both English and Spanish, which helps me connect with even more pet parents in our community.
Destiny Jimenez
Licensed Veterinary Technician
I’m a Registered Veterinary Technician and a 2023 graduate of Murray State University, where I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Veterinary Science. I’ve been a part of the Madison Animal Clinic team for over a year, where I enjoy working closely with both pets and their owners to support lifelong health and wellness. At home, I have a dog named Manny and a cat named Charlie, who always keep things interesting. In my free time, I enjoy relaxing outdoors and spending time with my pets.
Kailey Hamilton
Veterinary Assistant
I graduated from Caris College in 2023 and have been part of the Madison Animal Clinic team for the past year and a half. I’m passionate about supporting the health and well-being of animals and helping their owners feel confident in their pets’ care. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my two dogs and getting outdoors for walks and fresh air.
Michelle Humphrey
Veterinary Assistant
I’m enrolled in the Veterinary Technician program at Penn Foster and continuing to work toward my degree. I’ve been part of the team here for the past two years and really enjoy being involved in caring for animals and supporting their health.
Nancy Caldwell
Office Manager/CSR
Over the years, I’ve worked as a Veterinary Assistant at zoos and aquariums, gaining experience with a variety of species in the husbandry and training departments. Some of my favorites to work with have been Harbor Seals, Grizzly Bears, and North American River Otters. Since 2018, I’ve been working at the Madison Animal Clinic. My husband, our son and daughter, and I share our home with several dogs who keep us busy with their endless energy and love for playing ball and going on hikes.
Debbie Granatir
Veterinary Assistant
I’ve been with Madison Animal Clinic for about two years and have over 10 years of experience in veterinary-related work. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to care for a wide range of animals, including my two precious dogs, Teddy and Yoda. I also love dressing them up in costumes. Additionally, I work with Dr. Angie assisting with large animals.
